Crystal Palace midfielder JASON PUNCHEON has been charged by the FA over allegations he made on Twitter about former Eagles boss Neil Warnock.

The comments on Twitter came after PUNCHEON missed a first half penalty in the match against Tottenham on January 11.

Former Palace boss Neil Warnock, who managed PUNCHEON during a loan spell at QPR, said that PUNCHEON wasn't the sort of player he'd have taking spot kicks if he was in charge.

PUNCHEON then went on to make an allegation against Warnock, which he then quickly deleted from the social networking site.

By that time his tweets had been picked up by fans and the media.

The FA have said on their website:

"It is alleged that in posting these comments, PUNCHEON failed to act in the best interests of the game, and/or acted in a manner which was improper, and/or used abusive and/or insulting words in contravention of FA Rule E3[1].

"PUNCHEON has until 6pm on Thursday 27 February 2014 to respond to the charge."

Since the incident PUNCHEON has apologised for his comments on his twitter account:

"Regarding my tweet about my old gaffer, Neil Warnock I have now heard the full interview and Neil has acknowledged that he wasn't being personal I have apologised to Neil and withdrawn my allegations about him, which I accept were unfounded. We move on."
